Tommy B, one of our beloved long-term foster cats, had a little trip to the vet today. A few weeks ago, he underwent dental surgery to remove 16 teeth, and although his mouth has mostly healed, we’ve noticed a few lingering concerns.
He’s lost a bit of weight and, unfortunately, developed some rather pungent breath again. The vet confirmed that his gingivitis has returned, and it’s likely he’ll need another dental procedure in a few months. It also seems that food may be getting trapped in the gap left by one of his removed teeth, which could be contributing to the smell.
Today’s appointment was meant to include a blood test to investigate the weight loss further. However, Tommy had other ideas. Despite the best efforts of the team, he proved far too wriggly for a successful blood draw. So, he’ll be heading back on Monday for another attempt.
We’re keeping a close eye on him and doing everything we can to keep him comfortable. One thing’s for sure – he hasn’t lost his voice. He made it perfectly clear just how unimpressed he was with the whole ordeal, especially being rudely removed from his cosy afternoon nap and placed in a carrier.
We’ll keep you posted on Tommy’s progress and hope for some clear answers on Monday. In the meantime, he’s getting lots of love and attention from his foster family – whether he likes it or not.
