Poor Tommy B has had another trip to the vet – his third attempt – to try and get a full blood sample to investigate his ongoing weight loss. Since his dental in March, he’s lost about 1kg, which is quite worrying.

Unfortunately, this latest visit was also challenging. Despite trying several points for extraction, only a small sample could be taken, as shown in the photo. Thankfully, it was just enough to run the full set of tests.

The results indicate a potential issue with his thyroid, which may explain the weight loss. On a more positive note, his red and white cell counts, as well as liver and kidney function, are all within healthy ranges.

Tommy will need to return in a couple of months for repeat blood tests and a weight check. He’ll likely need to be fully sedated next time to ensure they can get a proper sample without putting him through so much stress.
